RWD dryers (Miniature/ hybrid/ large scale) are a newly promoted technology in Uganda. They dry the product over a bed of hot water and thereby allowing for gentle drying. This results in the preservation of nutrients and flavor. They come in three types, each type being suitable for a particular processor. The Miniature has a capacity to dry 2kg of fresh fruit is best suited for micro- scale and Laboratory drying. The Hybrid RWD which is best suited for small uses either electrical power or biomass energy and is able to dry about 14kg of fresh product per batch. The third type of the RWD is the industrial RWD which can be used on a large scale and is able to dry about 30 kg per batch.
